"Why didn't they think of this before" - Thats what I felt when the Mascara Guard came out in the market, but then the sceptic in me convinced me to not try out this gimmicky tool. I did read a few reviews most which impressed while some didnt and I just ended up getting confused till I finally got my hands on the Mascara Protector from Tweezerman, a brand synonymous with expert beauty tools.
You can see a pic of the tweezerman mascara protector below:-
The following is mentioned on its packaging:-
Now for the review:-
The Mascara Protector comes in a single color and its body is built from a single mould which has a rubbery feel to it. I guess they made it that way to make it flexible to work with but I must admit it takes sometime to get used to it. I had to struggle a bit with it initially and was not very happy with it but then after a couple of trial and errors I finally managed to use it without much effort. As I havent used anything like this before I am unable to compare it with another brand and hence cannot determine its full effectiveness.
What I love about this mighty little tool is that it allows you to really get to roots of your eyelashes and that means you can get more length on them and this makes it perfect for everyone who struggles to apply mascara without creating smears on the eyelids over which you carefully applied eyeshadow. If you have shaky hands this will give you more control. Its especially good for the lower lashes, however, dont get wild if you end up with clumpy lashes while you are trying to build up the volume coz the mascara protector wont work in this department! Its main function is to protect your under and upper eye makeup from those ugly smudges while applying mascara and while getting really close to the lashes.
In the pic below I am desperately trying to make this protector work out for me lol

I tried a couple of ways of working with this protector before coming out with the best one for myself, what I noted is that if I kept my eyes closed while working on my upper lashes, I was still at the risk of getting smears on my lower eye area, but when I tried the protector on my upper lashes with my eyes half open, it was much easier for me to get to the roots and there was a much lesser chance of my mascara hitting my under eye area and leaving behind ugly black marks on my under eye skin, but be sure of wiping of the protector with a cloth/tissue before switching over to another eye AND from the upper lash to the lower lash!
It could also come handy while filling up your brows but I tend to not use it for this purpose as my brow's shape doesn't match with the curve on this mascara protector.
Now comes the question, Do I like it? Would I recommend it? Yes, I like it but for me, it does take a bit of extra time, effort and getting used to this tool while I'm applying the mascara, the fact that I started wearing mascara since when I was a teen and with time have mastered the art of applying it without smearing it here and there and on some rare events when my hands go wobbly, I take a q-tip and gently roll it over the smudged area and voila! no one knows I had a panda eye!
I think it's a great little investment if you are just starting out with mascara and certainly for shaky handed people out there who want to avoid getting smeared all over by their beloved mascara!
NOTE: The Tweezerman Mascara Protector was sent to me by the Strawberrynet.com, This is my honest opinion about the product, I am not paid to do the review.Btw, Do check out their website for their Valentine's special offers on fragnance, starting from 20th Jan 2010!
